Upper Peninsula-A new cabin resting on 20 acres near US 2 - fireplace and plenty of parking/easy turn around
The Milakokia Cabin has super-easy access to U.S. 2, snowmobile trails (2), multiple ATV trails and just 0.7 miles from Lake Milakokia with a convenient boat ramp. This new cabin has a comfortable see-through fireplace, which can be enjoyed from both the bedroom and the living room. Yes, the driveway is 0.2 of a mile off of U.S.2. The cabin is about 300 feet from U.S.2.
20 private acres are yours to explore by foot or with your ATV. Plenty of space for your family to enjoy playing games or a quite campfire without neighbors.
It is centrally located to the rivers and lakes in the Upper Peninsula that Earnest Hemingway wrote about during his fishing days. Hemingway fished in the blue ribbon trout stream, the Fox River (near Seney) and called it the the Two-Hearted River in his books. Supposedly he changed the name because he wanted to keep his Fox River a special, secluded place. The Fox River is about 13 miles from the Milakokia Cabin.
Bookings around holidays are billed at the full weekly rate, regardless of whether you are able to stay for 2 nights or all 7 nights.
Fox River: Hemmingway's special hideout. 13 miles away
Naubinway: 14 miles away

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Beach/swimming: The closest beach for swimming is at the Google Big Knob...it is about 12 miles from the Milakoia Cabin and secluded.
Scotch point south of Gould City provides good swimming too. Both swimming beaches are on Lake Michigan.
Coffee Maker: Yes, there is basic, automatic coffee maker at the Milakokia Cabin
Highway: The Milalokia Cabin is set back from U.S. 2. The driveway is 0.2 of a mile off of U.S.2. The cabins itself is about 300-400 feet off of U.S. 2. While I have very good hearing, I've never noticed the highway traffic, especially while inside the cabin. In 5 years with the Milakokia Cabin, we have only received one complaint about the highway being so close to the cabin. The cabin is priced accordingly. Still, if the traffic is heavy, if there are many semis passing through, and the leaves have fallen from the trees, it is possible to hear the road at various times of the year. That hasn't been my experience, nor the experience of the majority of the guests.
Kitchen utensils: We have the basic kitchen utensils you will need during your stay. If there is anything you can't live without, I would advise you to please bring your own.
Linens: We have linens for the beds, and some basic towels for your use.
Permits- Hunting and Snowmobiling: Yes, both are required. In my opinion, the easiest way to get them is online - http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/Welcome/Default.aspx
If you are coming from downstate Michigan, another option is the 24 hour Holiday gas station in St. Ignace, right on U.S. 2. 274 W. US2 - Saint Ignace, MI 49781-1615 (906) 643-7770
The closest place from the Milakokia Cabin for a permit would be The Trading Post - W17204 Main Street- Curtis, MI 49820 (906) 586-9841
Trail 2 is the closest trail to the cabin. The Milakokia Cabin is in Mackinaw County.
Pets: Yes, we do accept dogs, yet we do ask that you please clean up after them both inside and outside the cabin. Plus, if you allow them on the furniture, we do ask that you please bring your own linens/blankets for them to sleep on. If the pet hair starts to build, we do ask that you please run the vacuum. The challenge with the Milakokia Cabin and dogs is that there isnt a fenced yard and US2 is just 0.2 miles down the driveway. Still, there is plenty of room for them to roam. Id hate for them to get lost on the 20 acres or run out onto the highway nearby.
Snowmobiling: The closest place to rent snowmobiles at at the Curtis Fish and Hunt Shop. Snowmobile rentals are approximately $200/day.
Wood: Generally, we can't guarantee there will be wood at the cabin for more than 1 basic fire.. Many time there is wood left around the firepit, or in the cabin around the fireplace. Still, you can count on being able to pick up some wood at the gas station 5 miles West of the cabin or in Curtis, 14 miles nortthwest of the cabin.
FYI: You can not transport firewood across the Mackinac Bridge due to the Emerald Ash disease.
